Holiday Networking

Holiday parties can be more than just old relatives and eggnog. These social gatherings can be used as an opportunity to network and, if done smartly, could be used to land your next job. Think about all the people you see at holiday parties that you don't normally run into during the year.

Keep these simple factors in mind to use your holiday social events as networking opportunities:

  • Dress conservatively – Your physical appearance could be someone's first impression of you. Watch your clothing, behavior and alcohol consumption.
  • Stay casual – Being too aggressive about seeking a new job opportunity could be a turnoff to potential employers.
  • Be prepared – It's not always possible to carry around a full copy of your resume but nothing is wrong with having a supply of business cards.
