HOW TO: Ace a Job Fair
Job fairs are a great way to learn about new job opportunities but they can be overwhelming if you're not prepared. Pay attention to the tips from Careerealism below to ace your next job fair:
- Practice your elevator speech – Talk to the recruiter about what types of jobs interest you and what jobs you have held in the past. Letting a recruiter know that you have experience in a certain area will likely favor you over a candidate who can't articulate his/her skill set.
- Find out as much information before the job fair – Do your homework by looking for a list of companies participating and go to their websites to see the types of positions that are open. After reviewing the list of companies, make a list of your top choices and visit those organizations first when you get to the job fair.
- Bring extra copies of your resume – This may seem like a no-brainer but there are always job fair attendees who run out of resumes, so make sure you have ample copies.
