Gingerbread House Tours

Making and decorating gingerbread houses is a favorite holiday activity enjoyed by many. From pre-made kits to elaborate homemade displays, they are fun to create and tasty to enjoy. If you're looking for inspiration for your next gingerbread creation or you'd like something unique to do with your family, check out some of these local gingerbread house tours.

The Ballantyne Hotel's Gingerbread Lane competition is a seasonal tradition for many local bakers. Folks from all over the Charlotte region kick off the holiday by unleashing their creativity with icing, gingerbread, and every kind of candy you can imagine. In the past, creations have included train scenes, pool scenes, intricate houses, the Panther's Stadium, and more. The artists will compete for top honors in amateur and professional categories. There is no entry fee, however to vote for your favorite, a $1 minimum donation is required. All proceeds will benefit Levine Children’s Hospital, to care for the physical and emotional needs of children and their families. Gingerbread Lane will be open from Thursday, December 7th through Wednesday, December 27th.

The 25th Annual National Gingerbread House competition at the Grove Park Inn will take place from November 26th through January 4th. Winners from four different age categories will be on display and can be viewed throughout the season. All gingerbread houses will be constructed of edible materials, with the exception of the base. From beautifully adorned churches to intricately detailed houses, participants throughout the country create beautiful works of art for the competition. Although entry is free, a $20 parking fee will be charged for all walk-in guests. A portion of the parking fee will be returned to the community in support of various local organizations. While there, enjoy the beautifully decorated landscape and sip some hot cocoa by the massive fireplace in the lobby.

Celebrate the holidays at Great Wolf Lodge by visiting Snowland, now through January 1st. In the Grand Lobby, the resort transforms your stay into a winter wonderland with a life-size gingerbread house and nightly snow showers. Pack the kids up for a few days of swimming and take memorable photos in front of the gingerbread house. Have you ever been INSIDE a gingerbread house? For a unique experience, book a holiday dinner inside the gingerbread house to benefit Ronald McDonald House charities. During the Snowland season, Santa will make appearances each weekend. You can also enjoy the hot cocoa bar, watch holiday movies, snuggle up for story time and take part in a scavenger hunt.
