Mount Etna is Europe's tallest active volcano and one of three active volcanoes in Italy. Lava bombs spewed from the peaks of this mountain as recently as March of 2017. Located on the Island of Sicily, Mount Etna's eruptions can be seen for miles and although recent eruptions have tended to be smaller, an especially large one in the 17th century altered the shape of Sicily's coastline. A visit to this volcano is not for the faint of heart. After a day of sightseeing, check into the Romano Palace Luxury Hotel in Catania for a local five-star stay.

Plan to stay at the Fuji Yamanaka-Ko Tagaoogi Hotel after taking in Mount Fuji and book the Japanese room with the mountain view so you can wake to an incredible view of the volcano.

Eyjafjallajokull is a large ice cap that encrusts an active volcano.  Although its one of the smallest ice caps in Iceland, it is still one of the best day hikes in the country.  Make sure to hire a guide, though; this four mile trek is not always easy to see.   Stay at the Hotel Rangá during your visit for a chance to see the Northern Lights, too.  The outdoor hot tubs are reason enough to book here, but the views of Mount Hekla make it a no-brainer.

Central Costa Rica is home to the 2,708 meter Poas Volcano. When the sky clears, you will have an incredible view of the bubbling, green lake at the bottom.  Although this volcano is active, there is no lava presently flowing down this mountain.  Stop in the modern visitor center to warm up with a hot drink.  Have us book your stay at the El Silencio Lodge & Spa for some post-hike pampering and access to other local hiking trails.
