Southwest Louisiana Mardi Gras – Same Celebration, Smaller Package
Mardi Gras is synonymous with New Orleans, but just 200 miles to the west lies a celebration with the same glorious pageantry in a more family-friendly environment – Southwest Louisiana Mardi Gras!
Southwest Louisiana Mardi Gras
Lake Charles, Louisiana is home to Southwest Louisiana Mardi Gras, the 2nd largest Mardi Gras celebration in the state. Don’t be fooled by it being second place though, it’s an event not to be missed. Joie de vivre reigns supreme starting on February 28th with the Lighted Boat Parade and culminating with the 40th Annual Krewe of Krewes Parade on March 5th.
Sandwiched in between are nearly a half-dozen other parades, including Jeeps on Parade and the Motor Gras Parade. Whatever you do, don’t miss your chance to actually join in during the Second Line Stroll on March 5th!
Get in the spirit of the event with the Gumbo Cook-off, during which you can sample up to 60 different recipes, on March 2nd, and get the full Louisiana dining experience with the Taste de la Louisiane on March 3rd.
Mardi Gras for Families
If the kids are in tow, check out the Children’s Day event featuring crafts, games, and more on March 3rd before heading out for the fan-favorite Children’s Parade.
You can bask in the beauty of more than 60 royal costumes at the Royal Gala on March 4th or visit the Museum of Imperial Calcasieu to see the largest collection of Mardi Gras costumes in the world.
There’s something for just about everyone at Southwest Louisiana Mardi Gras, making it perfect for a quick getaway!
