New Museum for Lady Liberty

The Statue of Liberty, the monument to freedom and beacon of hope that’s stood in New York Harbor since 1886, has a new and improved museum. In May, the new Statue of Liberty Museum opened on Liberty Island, and the 26,000-square-foot museum has been delivering a powerful message and in-depth look at this icon since. Three galleries delve into the history of the statue as told through historic artifacts, a 10-minute video featuring a drone fly-by and virtual fly-through of the statue, and an up-close look at the statue’s original torch which was previously on display in the statue’s base. Over 4 million visitors set foot on Liberty Island every year, and this free museum (you’ll still need to purchase your ferry ticket) makes those visits that much more powerful.
