Tired of vacuuming up crushed Cheerios and popcorn from your back seat? With these healthy car-friendly snacks, you can keep the kids satisfied and the messes to a bare minimum.

#1: Raisins and other dried fruits
They’re sweet, healthy, and not all that sticky, so they’re easy to clean up if they’re left behind in the car seat. Save the apple, orange, and banana slices for when you’re at home and have access to a sink to clean up the juicy stuff.

#2: Trail mix
If you want to add some satiating protein to those raisins, spring for a bag of trail mix. It’s super delicious and easy to clean. To top it off, the peanuts and almonds found in trail mix are loaded with tryptophan, a sleepy amino acid that’s great for helping kids stay on the calm side while you’re cruising.

#3: String cheese
Most kids won’t actually peel it and make a mess out of their string cheese. Instead, they’ll just bite it hunk by hunk. And since it is a dairy product, string cheese is a healthy way to curb hunger and fill those little bellies.

#4: Granola bars
Granola bars are like cereal, without the milk and the mess, and they’re easy to pack too. The hard granola bars will get all over your kids clothes and buried in the car seat, so go for the chewy granola bars. If you want to keep it on the healthy side, look for the granola bars covered in yogurt or honey rather than the chocolate-covered ones.

#5: Wheat crackers
Wheat crackers come in small bites, making them the quintessential snack for kids in the car. And they’re not nearly as crumbly or greasy as potato chips and tortilla chips.
