Health insurance doesn’t have to be complicated.
Granted, it feels complicated. But there are many resources out there to help you through the process (a process that you must embrace, by the way, since the Affordable Care Act stipulates that carrying health insurance is now a requirement). Here are some steps to help you get started:
Get educated. Your health insurance needs depend on several variables, including whether your employer is offering it or you buy it on your own. Either way, it helps to have an understanding of some of the basic options, so brush up on what an HMO is vs. a PPO, an EPO, et cetera.
Assess your needs. Take a close look at your health history, your age and your lifestyle so you can honestly gauge how much coverage you might need. Compare those needs against what is offered by the various plans you’re considering, and make a comparison checklist (and a pro and con list too, if you want) to keep it all straight.
Use online resources. HealthCare.gov is a website that offers a plethora of information, including a database that allows you to search on all insurers and their plans.
Run the numbers. Resist the urge to spend as little as possible, even if you’re in perfect health. Do a cost-benefit analysis, but also be prudent about the importance of adequate health coverage.
Adequate car insurance coverage is extremely important, too. Talk to an AAA agent today about your insurance needs and how we can help meet them.
