If you are looking for a unique road trip idea this summer, look no further than a vintage store road trip through the old North State! North Carolina boasts countless classic general stores and many old-time restaurants. Gas up your car and head out to explore some of the best living history North Carolina has to offer!

With the help of the Andy Griffith Show, Snappy Lunch in Mount Airy has been famous for its fried pork sandwich since the 1960s. Snappy Lunch opened in 1923 and every visit makes you feel as though you have been transported to the fictional town of Mayberry.

Opened in 1928, Black Mountain's Town Hardware & General Store carries all of the items you would expect from a large hardware chain and also offers many hard to find items from housewares and toys to outdoor living. If you can't find it at Town Hardware, you can't find it anywhere!

Located in downtown Davidson since 1951 and adjacent to Davidson College, The Soda Shop on Main Street is an authentic ice cream parlor offering hand-spun milkshakes, malteds, lemon and limeade and even flavored phosphates. The Soda Shop also boasts a full menu of delicious burgers, sandwiches, wraps, salads and more.

Designated in 1973 by the National Register of Historic Places as one of the best remaining examples of an old country general store, The Original Mast General has always been "the store that has everything" since its opening in 1883. Make sure to stop into the adjacent Candy Barrel, to pick up your favorite traditional sweets.

Coffey's General Store has been a landmark attraction in Edgemont, NC since its opening in 1895. This general store once housed the Edgemont Post Office and had the areas only telephones up until the 1970s. In addition to varied general store offerings, Coffey's still contains the original store fixtures, local antiques, cold bottled drinks and nickel candy.
