A Weekend in the Heart of North Carolina

Are you already thinking about your summer vacation plans? If those plans include the beach and the Carolinas, look no further than this list of wonderful beaches to choose your destination.

While North Carolina might be better known for its in-land destinations, it also has great beaches to offer. One of the locations we recommend is Wrightsville Beach, NC. The coastline is full of powdery white sand with minimal tourism. You’ll also find perfect waves for surfing and other water sports. You can go fishing yourself for dinner or head to a local restaurant for fresh seafood. Another North Carolina beach we love is Oak Island. The small town is ideal for either a relaxing family vacation or couples getaway. With minimal commercialization and tourism, you’ll feel connected to nature on the stretches of undeveloped coastline.

Out of the many South Carolina beaches, one of our favorites is Folly Beach. It’s a short drive from Charleston and has a fun beach-town vibe. You can take a walk down the fishing pier or take some surfing lessons. Kiawah Island is a private barrier island with beautiful beaches and natural woodlands. Popular activities include golf, tennis, cycling and fishing. And our pick for families would be Hilton Head, one of the largest islands along the east coast. Large resorts offer an array of activities for children and parents. You’ll also find endless dining and shopping options if you decide to leave the beach.
