Your Weekend Guide to Charleston, S.C.

With the daily routines of life and work, it’s often easy to quell our sense of adventure. Whether it’s traveling to a far-flung locale or sampling an exotic dish for the first time, “adventure” can mean something different for everyone.

For the past 36 years, I’ve been fortunate to work in an industry that provides limitless opportunities to stretch the boundaries of our comfort zones and take part in new and exciting experiences. Travel is a wonderful way to enrich and add variety to our lives. This issue of Traveler stirs up special memories of past trips I’ve taken. It also serves as a “wish list” of sorts for destinations I’ve yet to explore.

I’ve traveled to Cozumel, Mexico, more times than I can probably count. It’s a popular excursion on several cruises I’ve taken. Our favorite thing to do there is to rent a jeep and explore. We take the road that circles the island, stopping at small restaurants or pubs for fresh guacamole, warm chips and some of the best margaritas I’ve ever tasted. Our “Four C’s of Cozumel” feature on page 8 reminds me of special travel memories I’ve savored because I sought out something different.

The “Evocative Eastern Europe” feature (page 18) highlights a few of my favorite cities, too. Sailing along the Danube River is just a magical experience. You’re surrounded by such fantastic scenery. One highlight is sailing through Budapest at night. The Hungarian Parliament Building stands on the banks of the Danube. It’s Budapest’s tallest building, and the third largest parliament building in the world. To see it all lit up at night — it’s a memory that will last you a lifetime.

From visiting our national parks (“See America” on page 14) to spending blissful days in an Eden-like getaway (“Paradise Perfected” on page 26), there are ample ways to add variety to your life.

Make sure to read “Your Story” on page 30 and learn how one couple celebrated a milestone wedding anniversary with a global adventure. You’ll find even more travel ideas on page 12 with our “Agent Travel Picks for 2020” article.

Don’t lose your sense of wonder. Let the stories within these pages inspire you to escape your everyday routine and explore the world around you. Your local AAA Travel Agent can help you do just that. Stop by a AAA office near you!
